V-League weathers the storm

As of late afternoon yesterday (August 26), there was still no announcement from the V-League 2025/26 organizers regarding any changes to the schedule for Round 3 (taking place today, August 27), especially for matches in the eye of Typhoon Kajiki No. 5 affecting the northern and north-central regions. Although official statistics on human and material losses have yet to be released, it is evident that Ha Tinh and Nghe An suffered the heaviest damage from Typhoon No. 5, as they lie at the storm’s center.

In a conversation with reporters Sports & Culture yesterday afternoon (August 26), a leader from VPF Company said the organizing committee contacted the stadium organizers in the areas affected by the storm and flooding to check the situation and confirmed that the matches will proceed as planned.

According to the same official, the Ha Tinh stadium organizers have also given specific updates to the main committee regarding the arrangements for the match between Ha Tinh Club and Thanh Hoa Club, focusing primarily on the quality of the pitch and the stadium’s lighting system. On the afternoon of August 26, Thanh Hoa Club moved into Ha Tinh to prepare for this match.

Throughout its 25-year history, V-League has frequently seen matches or even entire tournaments postponed or canceled due to natural disasters. In the 2021 season, all results from the first half were annulled because of the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic, causing HAGL to miss out on the championship opportunity.

Football originally began as a simple game, a sport mainly for entertainment, before evolving into a lucrative, smoke-free industry. Recalling 20 years ago, when Typhoon Xangsane hit Da Nang, Hue, and the southern central provinces, the National U21 Championship - Thanh Nien Newspaper Cup 2006 had to postpone several matches. People were advised to stay indoors. After the storm passed, youth teams were encouraged to help locals clear debris. With clear skies and repaired heavy damage to the Chi Lang stadium’s lighting system, the tournament resumed.

V-League differs from youth tournaments, but the essence of football is the same. Sharing and giving generously is a social responsibility, a duty to the community, and also a responsibility of Vietnamese football!
