Boxing legend Tyson Fury announces he has cut ties with his love for MU, De Ligt receives a warning,... will be the key Manchester United updates on 27/8.
Boxing icon Tyson Fury shocked many by announcing he has “broken off” his passion for Manchester United after years of support. Speaking to Racing TV, Fury said he no longer has interest in football and will now focus on his passion for horse racing. Previously, Fury was a devoted MU fan, frequently visiting Old Trafford and even sitting next to Sir Alex Ferguson during the 4-3 FA Cup victory over Liverpool in 2024.
However, poor results under coach Ruben Amorim have left Fury disappointed. In the last 29 matches, MU earned only 28 points, a poor performance prompting many fans to call for Amorim’s dismissal. Fury added that since the shock England loss to Iceland at Euro 2016, he has gradually distanced himself from football and now chooses to “close the door” on MU.
Kai Rooney, the eldest son of legend Wayne Rooney, recently scored his first goal for Manchester United’s U18 team in a 5-0 win over Middlesbrough last weekend. The 15-year-old striker netted a lucky volley in the 76th minute.
Earlier, 14-year-old prodigy Gabriel starred with a brace, while Mantato and Ibragimov each contributed a goal. After two rounds of the U18 Premier League, MU has won all matches, scoring 6 goals and keeping a clean sheet. Wayne Rooney shared that he does not place heavy expectations on his son and hopes Kai enjoys football without pressure to perform.
Rene Meulensteen, former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson, believes Matthijs de Ligt is facing a pivotal season at MU. According to him, the Dutch center-back has yet to show the consistency and leadership needed in Ruben Amorim’s defensive system. De Ligt, who joined from Bayern Munich in summer 2024, started in the first two Premier League matches but has not yet made a strong impression.
Meulensteen states the 26-year-old needs to improve his speed and stamina to become a reliable “last line of defense” for the Red Devils, especially amid fierce competition with Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Leny Yoro. He concludes: “He’s only 26, still has great potential, but this season will determine if De Ligt has the courage to become the defensive leader of Manchester United.”
The future of captain Bruno Fernandes continues to attract attention as Al-Ittihad is ready to offer a hefty sum to bring him to Saudi Arabia. Previously, Al-Hilal offered a £700,000 weekly wage which Fernandes declined. Although the Portuguese midfielder insists he wants to stay with MU, Daily Mail reports that Al-Ittihad is preparing a more attractive proposal. If the deal goes through, the Arab club may offload Fabinho to free up the wage budget.
