Manchester United are on track under Ruben Amorim but not every player has been satisfactory, with Tyrell Malacia, the first signing of Ten Hag's tenure, likely to be one of those with a bleak future. The Dutch left-back may be hard to find in Portugal's 39-year-old system, with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Lyon in the Ligue 1 rumoured to be interested in bringing him in.

In Amorim's 343 formation, there is usually only one position on either side of the wing-back, with wingers on the other side to ensure that the attacking power is not weakened. In the first three games, it was usually a full-back on the left and a winger Amad Diallo or Antony on the right.
Malaysia returned to the pitch after a 550-day injury absence in the Europa League against Bodø. However, his performance was less than ideal, and he was crushed by his opponent in terms of pace, which led to the second goal conceded and he was substituted at half-time. With Luke Shaw back, Malacia may struggle to get much playing time at left wing-back. And unlike the likes of Shaw and Mazraoui, the diminutive Malacia has a hard time making cameos in other positions.
Among the many players available at Manchester United, Malacia is a relatively one-dimensional player, with the exception of left-back, who is basically incapable of other roles, which will also affect his opportunities under Amorim.
Offside Insight reports suggest that Malaysia is most likely to be sold if United buy another full-back, with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and Ligue 1 side Lyon showing interest. Among them, Lyon had already reached an agreement with the 25-year-old Dutch full-back, and Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had issued "here we go", but Manchester United added money and finally signed him from Feyenoord for a transfer fee of 17 million euros.

Malacia has been plagued by injuries since joining in 2022, making 40 appearances in all competitions and playing just 45 minutes of senior football since the start of last season.
Manchester United have been rumoured to be sold off by the likes of Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, Chelsea's Ben Chilwell, Bournemouth's Milos Kolquez and Benfica's Alvaro Fernandez Carreras. The price of his introduction is not high, so even if he sells, the loss will not be too large.
Of course, in public, Amorim will need to continue to support Malaysia in order to maintain his transfer value, but he really can't find anything to praise for his courage. "It means a lot to Tyrell [Malacia] to come back, everyone has a lot of confidence in him and I think he did very well." Amorim told MUTV, Manchester United's official television station: 'He hasn't played for over a year, but I'm happy with him for being so brave on the pitch.'
Manchester United will purge a number of players again in 2025, with the exception of Malacia, where 32-year-old midfielder David Eriksen is almost certain to leave when his contract expires. Sky Sport's Florian Plettenberg says United are looking for new midfielders to bring in a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder.

Amorim said: 'I think a new face always helps, we have to make it clear to the fans that it helps. We have a lot of things to do, it takes time and we will fight for every game like we used to because sometimes we don't play well but we have to defend and everyone is together. I think that's a big point, it's very important for the club because I think the bottom line of the fans is just that we work hard and over time they demand better football.'
