On August 27th Beijing time, the third round of the Women’s Volleyball World Championship group stage is fiercely underway. A key match just concluded with China facing the Dominican Republic. The Chinese team exploded with full force, sweeping the Dominican Republic 3-0, achieving a powerful third consecutive victory and clinching first place in the group. Their opponent in the round of 16 has been confirmed as the French women’s volleyball team!
In the first two group matches, the Chinese women’s volleyball team faced weaker opponents Mexico and Colombia, and did not show their strength as a top team, losing at least one set and drawing criticism from fans. Today, competing with the Dominican Republic for the top spot in the group, we had no room for error and had to fight hard to secure first place. This match carried great pressure because failing to take first would mean facing Brazil in the knockout stage, which would be a tough challenge!
After the match started, the two teams battled closely until a 10-10 tie, when the Chinese women’s volleyball team suddenly ignited, unleashing a powerful streak that stunned the Dominican Republic and won the first set 25-15. In the second set, a fierce back-and-forth unfolded. China held a slight lead while the Dominican Republic kept chasing, narrowing the gap to 21-22. We called a timely timeout, then scored three consecutive points to take the set 25-21, leading 2-0 overall. The third set began with continued intense play. After reaching 8-7, China scored three straight points to lead 11-7. Maintaining a three-point advantage, we pressured the Dominican Republic to 17-14. The Dominican team’s mindset faltered, and China extended the lead by another three points to six. We then played steadily to close out the set 25-17, sweeping the Dominican Republic 3-0 in total!
It must be said that this victory was quite unexpected. The Chinese team looked like a completely different squad compared to the previous two matches. This game showcased a long-missed dominance, overwhelming the Dominican Republic. Ultimately, we secured a commanding 3-0 win with all players performing efficiently. Next in the round of 16, we will face the French team. If we play to our potential, advancing to the quarterfinals should be straightforward. The real challenge lies ahead in the quarterfinals. Go China Women’s Volleyball Team, keep fighting!
