Vietnam's U16 women's squad will meet Indonesia in the battle for third place at the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship.
After losing 1-3 to Thailand's U16 women in the semifinal held at 3:30 PM on August 27 at Manahan Stadium (Indonesia), Vietnam's U16 women's team will contest the third-place match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship on August 29. Despite their strong efforts, the team led by coach Okiyama Masahiko could not pull off an upset against a stronger opponent in all aspects.
With this result, Vietnam's U16 women will strive to win the bronze medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship, scheduled for 3:30 PM on August 29. Their opponent will be decided after the semifinal between hosts Indonesia U16 women and Australia U16 women.
As expected, Indonesia's U16 women, despite home advantage, could not surprise Australia. In the first half, Indonesia conceded two goals due to constant pressure from their opponents. Although they tried hard to equalize in the remainder of the match, Australia's U16 women showed clear superiority in both physique and skill, adding one more goal.
The match ended 3-0 in favor of Australia's U16 women, who will face Thailand in the final at 7:30 PM on August 29. Earlier in the group stage, Australia also defeated Thailand 2-1.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's U16 women will face host Indonesia's U16 women in the third-place match at 3:30 PM the same day. History favors Vietnam's U16 women, who have won all three previous third-place matches in 2009, 2018, and 2019.
Vietnam's U16 women still have not broken the pattern of failing to reach the Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship final. In their previous four appearances, their best result was third place (three times third place and once failing to pass the group stage). In their fifth participation, Vietnam's U16 women again could not advance to the final.
