Chelsea is nearing an agreement with MU to acquire Alejandro Garnacho, and Napoli is still in talks with MU about Hojlund... these are the key MU transfer news highlights this morning, 28/8.
Alejandro Garnacho set to join Chelsea
Chelsea is approaching the completion of signing Alejandro Garnacho. Manchester United wants to sell the player for £50 million, which is higher than what Chelsea plans to pay, but both sides could still reach an agreement before the deadline next Monday.
Garnacho has declined offers from other clubs because he only wants to join Chelsea. Previously, Manchester United allowed him to leave at the end of last season, and he has not been training with the first team since.
Napoli continues talks with MU over Hojlund
Napoli is expected to continue negotiations with Manchester United to finalize the deal for striker Rasmus Hojlund soon.
Besides Napoli, there is also an English club and a German club who made late bids for Rasmus Hojlund. However, the striker only wants to join Napoli and is ready to move to Italy once the two clubs reach an agreement. Manchester United has confirmed they will approve the deal, but under their conditions. Both the club and Hojlund want a solid clause included in the contract.
Napoli initially proposed a loan with an obligation to buy. This clause would become mandatory if Hojlund meets certain criteria such as appearances, goals, or Napoli qualifying for the Champions League.
Antony to continue playing for Betis
According to SunSport, the 25-year-old winger Antony will keep playing for Betis after previously being on loan there last season. United hopes to sell Antony permanently, but currently both sides are negotiating for a second loan deal.
Betis must pay £3 million to loan Antony this season and is expected to buy him outright for £33 million in 2026, bringing the total deal value to £36 million. From the start, Man Utd insisted on a mandatory purchase clause rather than a simple loan.
This means Antony – former Ajax star and the first member of the "Bomb Squad" under coach Ruben Amorim – is almost certain to leave Old Trafford permanently.
