Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim will be looking to see if his current squad can meet the demands of his style of play when he brings in new additions next year, but there is one position that has already been identified as a need for reinforcements, and that is the midfield. The Red Devils have been revealed to be trying to poach Bayern Munich, but have been rejected by the player.
The 32-year-old started in the opening game for Amorim but has not been given any playing opportunities since. He has already decided to leave next year, possibly as early as January, with Celtic in the Scottish Super League and Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super League both interested in him. If he is unable to make the trip, the Danish midfielder's contract will expire at the end of the season, and Amorim has confirmed that he can leave and that it is impossible to renew it.
Casemiro is in the same situation, and his career at Manchester United could be coming to an end. Both star players will celebrate their 33rd birthdays early next year and earn a whopping £350,000 for Eriksen and Casemiro at £350,000.
Sky Sports Germany reports that Amorim has submitted a shortlist of midfield signings to owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS management team, including Bayern's Konrad Laimer.
Manchester United signed De Ligt and Mazraoui from Bayern Munich this summer, and both of them have performed well, so the hierarchy also knows the essence and has confidence in Bayern's fringe players. The 27-year-old midfielder from Austria came from RB Leipzig but had to make a cameo at right-back at Bayern Munich and only had three Bundesliga starts since Vincent Kompany.
Manchester United could give him regular playing time and give him a chance to return to midfield and take his place. Its versatility is a trait that Amorim appreciates, and with a current market value of €30 million, United believe it is good value for money.
However, Bild revealed that Laimer had turned down a move from Manchester United, saying he was happy at Bayern and had no intention of leaving. Currently, his contract is valid until 2027. Despite not being a regular Bayern player, Laimer still has some playing time and is known as "Mr. Reliable", while Old Trafford is too deep for him to be the next player to leave Bayern Munich and join Manchester United.
In the most recent game, Amorim deployed captain Bruno Fernandes to play in a central midfield alongside Manuel Ugarte, which may have been largely due to the suspension of five yellow cards accumulated by Kobe Mayno against Arsenal.
Despite being rejected by Laimer, United are still keeping an eye on what's happening at the Allianz Arena, with Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, midfielder Goretzka and even England centre-forward Harry Kane all of the things that Lajue and his team are interested in.
Bayern have also become the club with the most rumours of a transfer to Manchester United after Sporting, whose former club is Amorim, and the players there are all familiar to the 39-year-old Portuguese young coach.
Some players who have played for Portugal in the past, such as Tottenham's 24-year-old Spanish right-back Pedro Poro, have also been linked with the Red Devils. Porro joins Tottenham for £45million in 2023, but Ass says he wants to join bigger clubs such as Manchester United or Real Madrid.
However, Premier League transfer expert Graeme Bailey has stressed that Amorim has no transfer decision-making power and can only advise. 'Amorim is a manager and not a football manager, he doesn't dictate the formation of the team. The manager has a different way of working and Amorim can't appoint a particular player."
