On December 7, the competition of the 2024 SJJCF World Sports Jiu-Jitsu Tour (Guangdong Station) was held in the Asian Games City Comprehensive Gymnasium in Panyu District, Guangzhou. More than 800 athletes of different ages from China and abroad participated in the competition, which was the largest international sports event held in South China this year.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is currently very popular around the world, and its rules are different from those of wrestling and judo, which enter the Olympic sequence. In the match, both sides must try their best to bring the fight to the ground within the allotted time, scoring points through joint skills, chokes, etc., until the opponent is submitted. Under the control of professional judges, Jiu-Jitsu matches are a great example of the wisdom and charm of this combat sport. In recent years, with the rapid development of various martial arts in China, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has also entered the field of vision of the Chinese people, especially among teenagers and white-collar workers.
The World Sports Jiu-Jitsu Tour is a new series of amateur and professional Jiu-Jitsu events organized by the World Sports Jiu-Jitsu Federation (SJJCF) and created and implemented by the "International Jiu-Jitsu Certification System" in China.
More than 800 people participated in the competition, which was divided into adult and junior categories, and these competitors will compete for nearly 220 titles, showcasing the fierce competition and charm of Jiu-Jitsu.
It is worth mentioning that in this competition, nearly 50 players from Hong Kong, Macau, China and Taiwan, China have reached nearly 50 people, showing the high level of love and development of Jiu-Jitsu in these three places. In addition, there are foreign players from 20 countries including the United States, Brazil, New Zealand, Singapore, and Canada, which fully reflects the internationalization of this competition.
The number of young participants in the event was nearly 200, the highest in the history of the event. The youngest of these fighters is only 6 or 7 years old, but they show bravery and confidence in the Jiu-Jitsu arena, and every move is unambiguous. Many parents next to them also devoted themselves to cheering for their children.
A pair of sisters who study in Zhongshan West District Central Primary School both won the championship, the elder sister Zeng Xin is 10 years old and is in the 5th grade this year, and the younger sister Zeng Yi is 8 years old and is in the 2nd grade this year. Sister Zeng Xin said that she and her sister have been learning jiu-jitsu together for half a year this year, and they feel that this sport is very interesting and not difficult to learn. Through their studies, both sisters have improved their physical fitness, especially in terms of self-confidence, and the happiest thing is that they can participate in competitions and win medals.
The sisters' mother, Chen Xingzhen, said that she initially asked her two daughters to learn jiu-jitsu so that they could exercise and avoid being bullied at school. After studying for half a year, I found that my eldest daughter's self-confidence has improved significantly, especially my younger sister's personality is more introverted and now much more cheerful. "I think Jiu-Jitsu is a very good sport for teenagers to learn, it is safe and competitive, and it is a good promotion for children's physical and mental health, and I hope that more parents will let their children try to learn this sport." She said.
Most of the adult contestants are amateurs, including doctors, lawyers, special police officers, college students, civil servants, etc., and some of them have experience in professional martial arts.
Men's 74kg blue belt Wang Haoxiang, an MMA professional, said: "I haven't been in Jiu-Jitsu for a long time, but it was my first time competing in Jiu-Jitsu, and I felt that Jiu-Jitsu was very fun, and I met a lot of Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts here. Jiu-Jitsu techniques have now become an important technical part of MMA, and it is hoped that Chinese combat sports will pay more and more attention to the learning and application of Jiu-Jitsu. ”
Former Chinese MMA star Zhang Lipeng, who has participated in the event many times before, has now set up a fight club in Foshan, and he has organized more than 20 young fighters to participate in the competition. "The increasing number of children participating in this competition is a good phenomenon, which is conducive to the promotion of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the event in China. At present, Jiu-Jitsu is still a niche in China, but this event has been done for many years, and it is indeed becoming more and more mature in promotion, which is very helpful for the development of Chinese combat sports. I hope that every child can have their own sports dreams, not only jiu-jitsu, but any sport should encourage them to be exposed to more. Young children may not necessarily have a talent for sports, but through hard work, they can develop a lifelong habit of participating in sports. Zhang Lipeng said.
Yang Chunlei, the person in charge of the organizer of the event and vice chairman of the SJJCF World Sports Jiu-Jitsu Federation in Greater China, introduced that this event is the second Guangdong station held this year, and the scale of the event is the largest, and it is a station with a very high standard in China.
"The number of young players participating in this event has increased significantly, which shows that the popularity of this sport in Pakistan will become more and more popular in the country. With the continuous advancement of science and technology, the equipment and technology of the competition will be more advanced, such as the application of virtual reality, high-definition camera and other technologies, which will bring a more immersive viewing experience to the audience. The operation supervision and medical security of the event are also maturing. Yang Chunlei said, "The successful holding of this Guangdong competition will further enhance Guangzhou's international influence and promote the vigorous development of the city's sports industry." In addition, it will directly promote the creation of a national fitness atmosphere and the operation of venues for the National Games of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area next year. ”
