Manchester United are reportedly one of many clubs chasing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. Osimhen has been the subject of rumours in every transfer window in recent years, with many big clubs linked with him, especially after leading Napoli to the Serie A title in 2023. However, he then fell out with the club and is now on loan at Galatasaray in the Turkish Super League.
Osimhen is certain to join other clubs in 2025 amid transfer speculation, with Serie A rivals Juventus being one of those interested last week, but Napoli are not keen on negotiating with their league rivals, which could open the door for Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain.
Osimhen has a £62 million (€75 million) release fee and Napoli are looking to sell him to raise money to buy new signings to bolster Antonio Conte's squad. United are currently short of a centre-forward who can score, Hojlund is inexperienced, Zilkze can't shoot, and new boss Ruben Amorim wants a world-class goalscorer, and Osimhen is certainly one of those options. This season, he has nine goals and five assists in 12 games.
When Napoli won the title in 2022/23, the Nigerian striker scored 26 goals in 32 Serie A games, and Manchester United has not scored more than 20 goals in a single Premier League season for many years, the last one was Robin van Persie before his retirement! The Red Devils have scored just 19 goals in the Premier League this season, the joint-sixth-worst team, even fewer than 19th-placed Wolves.
Manchester United are also rumoured to bring in a goalscorer from Amorim's former club Sporting for Portugal, but the Swedish centre-forward has more suitors at the moment and may not be opting for the problematic Red Devils. Among them, Grand Paris is also interested in Dzhekereish, who has scored 22 goals in 18 games, and is the biggest favorite to bring him in.
Napoli have a January recall clause in their loan contract, but sporting director Giovanni Manna insists that no one has yet spoken to them about activating Osimhen's release clause in January, so the player is expected to remain on loan at Galatasaray.
"I've said it many times and no one has talked to us," Monk said. Victor (Osimhen) is a Napoli player who currently plays for Galatasaray. I think too much has been said about this and nothing has happened. We invested a lot of money in the summer and we are willing to invest more if needed. We are focused on our game and if there is an opportunity to improve the team, the club will take the opportunity, but that is not a priority at the moment. It's our job to be ready."
Di Marzio, a well-known Italian transfer expert, said that Osimhen himself wants to play in the Premier League, so he plans to stay in the Turkish Super League this season to prove his ability and attract offers from English clubs. "He's happy to stay there and doesn't want to negotiate with other clubs. He wants to use this season as an opportunity for Premier League clubs to decide to buy Napoli." Di Marzio explained, "He wants to play there and win championships."
On Osimhen's next home, Di Marzio said: "I think Galatasaray also have a chance to try to buy him and they will negotiate with Napoli to reach an agreement. I know there is a club in Saudi Arabia that wants him, I don't know the exact name, they want to sign him now, but Osimhen doesn't want to sign now, he wants to wait. Paris Saint-Germain have always had their chances and they are the only club to make an offer to him this summer. Grand Paris are bidding €220 million for Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia, so maybe they will try to buy these two players again."
Of course, if PSG opt for Djekereish, then Manchester United's transfer to Osimhen will be even greater.
