The U23 Vietnam squad is set to face U23 Bangladesh in their first game of the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifying round.
Before heading to Vietnam for the tournament, U23 Bangladesh had an extended training camp in Bahrain. During this period, they played several friendlies against the host team and suffered defeats in both matches. The most notable player for U23 Bangladesh is Cuba Mitchell, who has a mixed heritage of English, Jamaican, and Bangladeshi descent. He has previously played for youth teams in England such as Birmingham and Sunderland.
On the other hand, the red-shirted team had only four days to gather and prepare. However, since the core players recently won the Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the entire squad quickly adapted to coach Kim Sang Sik’s methods and tactics.
In terms of squad strength and current form, Bangladesh is considered weaker than Vietnam. Thus, securing 3 points is well within reach for the home team. However, coach Kim Sang Sik’s side not only aims for the win but also a significant margin to gain an advantage in case the toughest opponent, U23 Yemen, ends up with the same points.
