The Indonesian futsal team was defeated by Latvia, who are 37 spots below them in the FIFA rankings, resulting in a missed opportunity for the championship in the friendly competition.
After a convincing 5-1 victory over the Netherlands, the Indonesian futsal team was expected to continue their winning streak against Latvia, ranked 37 places lower on the FIFA list. However, within just 12 minutes, Latvia took the lead when Viktors Kulepovs capitalized on Indonesia’s high pressing and scored following a timely assist from Edgars Tarakanovs.
Early in the second half, Tarakanovs once again displayed remarkable speed, bypassing the goalkeeper to score from a tight angle. Indonesia pressed forward seeking an equalizer, but with only seven minutes left, they were punished again: Kulepovs fired a long-range shot into an open net, extending Latvia’s lead.
The host nation Indonesia managed to score a goal just 11 seconds before the final whistle, but Latvia held on to secure the win. In the end, Indonesia lost 2-3 to Latvia, missing out on the championship on their home ground, while Latvia impressed with three straight victories.
