The top contenders for the First Division championship disappointed greatly on the opening day.

During the first round of the First Division, prominent clubs such as Đồng Nai, Quảng Ninh, and Bắc Ninh did not secure favorable outcomes.

Playing away at Trẻ PVF-CAND’s stadium, the team from the mining region started proactively and dominated the first half. However, the turning point came in the 55th minute when the home team scored first. From a corner kick, goalkeeper Dương Văn Cường rushed out but missed the punch, allowing Lê Thắng Long to head in the only goal of the match. This marked the second consecutive time Quảng Ninh suffered due to a goalkeeper error after a similar mistake in their defeat in the National Cup the previous week.

After conceding, Quảng Ninh’s coach brought on Mạc Hồng Quân and Nghiêm Xuân Tú, increasing pressure on the visitors. Despite creating some dangerous chances, they couldn’t find an equalizer and had to accept a loss on their opening day.

Meanwhile, at Thống Nhất Stadium, Bắc Ninh FC, with coach Park Hang Seo as advisor, also faced a tough match against Thanh niên TPHCM. The Kinh Bắc team started confidently, controlled the game, and constantly pressed their opponents. The attacking trio Lê Sỹ Minh, Hà Đức Chinh, and Kaina Nunes created many threatening situations but failed to score. The most unfortunate moment was in the 39th minute when Nunes had two consecutive shots but couldn’t convert.

After the break, Bắc Ninh FC continued to apply pressure, but the home team Thanh Niên TP.HCM defended tightly, nullifying most attacks. The late efforts of Bắc Ninh’s coach and players were insufficient to change the result.

In the match played a day earlier, Trường Tươi Đồng Nai also dropped a win in the final minutes against CLB TPHCM.

With these results, the three leading candidates for the First Division title all left fans disappointed. This also promises an exciting second round filled with thrilling, back-and-forth matches.
