Real Madrid fans ridiculed Yamal after the Spanish talent failed to claim the Ballon d'Or award this year.

After the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris, social media erupted with Real Madrid fans' gleeful reaction to young talent Lamine Yamal not winning the prize.

On the evening of September 22, the most prestigious football gala concluded with Ousmane Dembele (Paris Saint Germain) taking the top honor. This marked the first time in his career that the former Barcelona player was named the world's best, surpassing direct rivals Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) and Vitinha (PSG).

Throughout the day, many sources claimed Yamal was the frontrunner, raising hopes among Barcelona supporters for a historic victory for the 18-year-old prodigy. However, the final outcome disappointed many Barca fans as the coveted award went to his compatriot Dembele.

In contrast, the atmosphere among Real Madrid fans was completely different. The Madridistas were not only delighted by the result but also flooded social media with mocking images targeting Yamal. One of the most widely shared pictures came from the specialized page Madrid Zone: a group of people reaching towards a colorful balloon, symbolizing Yamal’s futile attempt to grasp the "Golden Ball."

The situation became even more dramatic considering that just a year ago, Barcelona fans launched a campaign against Vinicius Jr. after the Brazilian star finished second in the 2024 Ballon d'Or voting. Now, the Madridistas are “retaliating” by mocking Yamal, the new pride of their Catalan rivals.

Yamal’s failure to win clearly reflects the fierce competition for the world’s most prestigious individual award. At only 18, he has already established himself as a key player at Barcelona with numerous impressive performances. Nevertheless, Dembele’s team achievements and consistent form throughout the 2024/25 season earned him a well-deserved victory.

At 28 years old, Dembele is considered to be in the prime of his career. Meanwhile, despite the loss, Yamal is still regarded as the “future of world football” with many opportunities ahead to claim the Ballon d'Or in the coming years.
