The Vietnam futsal team is in control of their fate in the 2026 Asian futsal qualification round.
In the second match of Group E in the 2026 Asian futsal qualifiers, Vietnam's futsal team secured an impressive 7-2 victory over the host China, maintaining their top position in the group with a perfect 6 points. Previously, coach Diego Giustozzi’s squad had defeated Hong Kong 9-1 in the opening match.
In the final match on September 24th, Vietnam (6 points) will face Lebanon (4 points) to determine the group leader and direct qualification spot for the 2026 Asian futsal finals. Lebanon, despite being highly rated, was unexpectedly held to a draw by Hong Kong earlier.
Although only a minimum of 1 point is needed to secure the top position, this game is expected to be intense, as Lebanon is known for their strong fitness, solid playing style, and greater experience compared to Vietnam’s other group opponents.
In the 2026 Asian futsal qualifiers, the 8 group winners and the 7 best runners-up will qualify for the finals. Vietnam holds the advantage of needing only a draw to guarantee first place. Meanwhile, if Lebanon fails to beat Vietnam, they will be eliminated.
In reality, this match requires Vietnam to remain vigilant because a loss would mean finishing second in the group. Since some groups have only 3 teams, when comparing the best runners-up across groups, results against the fourth-placed teams in 4-team groups will not be counted.
The 2026 Asian futsal qualifiers include 31 teams divided into 8 groups: 7 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 3 teams. Teams compete in a single round-robin format hosted by the countries assigned to each group. The 8 group winners and the 7 best runners-up will qualify for the 2026 Asian futsal finals held in Indonesia in January 2026. As hosts, Indonesia automatically qualify and do not participate in the qualifiers.
