FIFA announces good news to Mr. Erick Thohir, permitting him to hold both the position of PSSI chairman and Minister of Youth and Sports in Indonesia at the same time.
According to the CNN Indonesia report, Erick Thohir, who is both the Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) and the Minister of Youth and Sports, has officially received FIFA's approval to continue holding both roles concurrently. This confirmation came after FIFA sent an official letter to PSSI on September 22.
In the letter, Erick Thohir stated that FIFA affirmed there is no issue with him holding both positions simultaneously. Previously, concerns had arisen that Erick Thohir might have to resign as PSSI Chairman due to existing laws prohibiting third-party interference in football.
"This morning (September 22), I received a letter from FIFA stating that according to their regulations and based on my football experience, there is no conflict of interest. Therefore, I am completely transparent and clean. Of course, as Minister of Youth and Sports, I always maintain balance," Erick said in a statement released by PSSI.
Addressing concerns that football might receive preferential treatment due to his role, Erick emphasized: "It is impossible for me, as Minister, to treat football as a ‘favorite child.’ No. My ‘favorites’ will be 13 to 14 key sports. Naturally, we will also reorganize other sports."
He also expressed gratitude to FIFA for their trust and to the Indonesian President for direct support. With FIFA’s confirmation that no conflict of interest exists, Erick Thohir can continue as PSSI Chairman until 2027, alongside his role as Minister of Youth and Sports.
