The CEO of Aston Villa, Mr. Monchi, departed the club after a string of poor results this season.
According to ESPN sources, Aston Villa’s CEO, Monchi, has exited the club after a dismal beginning to the current campaign.
The 57-year-old executive joined Villa in June 2023, reuniting with coach Unai Emery after their previous successes together at Sevilla.
During his two seasons at Villa, Monchi played a key role in helping the team finish 4th and 6th in the Premier League, as well as reaching the Champions League quarter-finals last season. However, the Birmingham club missed out on qualifying for the Champions League for a second consecutive season after losing to Manchester United in the final round last year.
This past summer, Villa faced significant challenges in the transfer market. They only secured Evann Guessand and Marco Bizot on permanent deals, while Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho arrived on loan on the final day of the transfer window, and Victor Lindelof joined on a free transfer. Additionally, key players like goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez remained unsettled, eager to leave but unable to do so.
Under coach Unai Emery, the team has had a disappointing start in the Premier League, failing to win any of their first five matches and scoring just one goal — Matty Cash’s equalizer in a 1-1 draw against a depleted Sunderland side last weekend. They were also knocked out in the first round of the English League Cup. Currently, Aston Villa sits 18th in the league standings.
This situation has put pressure on coach Unai Emery and his staff, leading to CEO Monchi’s departure.
