Real Madrid firmly refuses to 'spoil' Vinicius Jr.

Vinicius Jr.'s future at Real Madrid has turned into a heated issue amid stalled contract extension talks.

Vinicius Junior no longer holds the automatic starting position under coach Xabi Alonso. He has been on the bench twice in the first six matches of the season and showed clear frustration when substituted in the recent game against Espanyol.

According to MARCA, on Monday morning, Vinicius' agent, Frederico Pena, met with CEO Jose Angel Sanchez at Valdebebas to discuss the contract situation. Despite reports denying the meeting, MARCA sources confirm that both parties did engage in talks about the player's future.

From Real Madrid's side, the club continues to affirm that Vinicius is a “special player” in both current and future plans and consistently supports him. However, the club’s leadership has made their stance clear: the current contract extension offer will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future.

Vinicius' contract still has 20 months remaining, so there is no immediate cause for concern at the Bernabeu. However, disagreements over new terms are causing discomfort on both sides, especially since everything seemed settled just six months ago. Vinicius seeks a significantly higher salary, but Real Madrid insists on maintaining the current wage to ensure locker room stability.

Contract “mind games” at the Bernabeu are nothing new. Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos both faced tense negotiations before leaving or renewing. Although Vinicius’ situation is different—he is at the peak of his career rather than its end—Real Madrid remains firm in their approach to preserve financial stability.

This message is also conveyed by the Royal Club’s management to its stars: Real Madrid prioritizes collective interests and salary structure above all, regardless of a player's fame. Vinicius remains a key asset for Xabi Alonso, but to continue a long-term commitment, he must accept the club’s proposed terms, at least for now.
