In most matches where the forward played under Alonso, he was taken off midway. In the opening match of the Champions League against Marseille midweek, the 25-year-old even started on the bench.

This situation immediately sparked controversy in Spain, especially since Vinicius was reportedly in peak physical and mental condition. For the first time since 2020, he did not have to join Brazil's national team for the international break, allowing him full rest and training time with Real Madrid.

Nevertheless, Alonso seems not yet fully convinced by the winger. This has even fueled rumors that Vinicius might leave Los Blancos after this season.

According to The Athletic, sources close to Vinicius notice many parallels between Alonso and former coach Zinedine Zidane, which is not necessarily a compliment.

“Sources close to Vinicius Jr say the current scenario reminds them of Zidane’s time coaching Real Madrid, when he didn’t trust the player as much as Santiago Solari or Carlo Ancelotti did,” the report stated.

These insiders had already predicted that Vinicius would face a challenging first year before the season started. However, Alonso’s treatment of the Brazilian star is believed to be unrelated to ongoing contract negotiations with Real Madrid.

Rumors that Alonso was instructed by the club’s management to pressure Vinicius have been denied, as negotiations have encountered many difficulties so far.
