Barca postpones contract extension with striker who contributed 31 goals

Ferran Torres is currently in great form and plays a crucial role under coach Hansi Flick, but his future with Barcelona is still unclear since the club has not started negotiations for a contract extension.

Ferran Torres has shown impressive performance for Barcelona, scoring 31 goals and providing assists since last season. The Spanish forward is regarded by coach Hansi Flick as an essential part of the attack, especially given the frequent injuries to Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal.

However, Ferran’s current contract runs until 2027, and so far, Barca has not taken any steps to extend it. According to MARCA, the Catalan club’s management “still considers Ferran” in their long-term plans, but negotiations have yet to begin. This is because Barca’s current priority lies with contracts expiring sooner in 2026, including those of Frenkie de Jong, Eric Garcia, and Andreas Christensen.

Notably, Ferran has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain at Camp Nou. He is willing to sign a new contract, but Barca has not set a date to start negotiations.

During the 2024/25 season, Ferran had to undergo appendicitis surgery, causing him to miss a significant part of the campaign. Nevertheless, upon his return, the 2000-born player quickly proved his worth. This season alone, he has scored 4 goals in 5 La Liga matches, playing a major role in Barca’s strong start. His versatility, able to play on both wings or as a central striker, makes Ferran an effective backup option for coach Flick, especially after Marcus Rashford faced internal disciplinary action.

Although not prioritized in contract talks, Ferran Torres’s influence within the Barcelona squad is undeniable. With a congested schedule ahead, including 4 matches in La Liga and the Champions League within less than two weeks, the Spanish forward will certainly remain a player coach Flick relies on.

Ferran’s future at Camp Nou may be uncertain, but at present, he remains one of the few bright spots for Barca amid a turbulent period.
