Coach Mikel Arteta has addressed the serious injury Madueke suffered during the game against Man City last time.
Arsenal has received unfortunate news that winger Noni Madueke will be sidelined for at least six weeks due to a knee injury. This is a major blow for Coach Mikel Arteta, as the English player had been performing impressively since joining from Chelsea for a fee of £52 million.
Madueke injured his right knee in the draw against Manchester City last weekend. Although he tried to continue playing, he was unable to proceed after halftime and had to leave the field. Initial tests indicate he will need between six to eight weeks for recovery, with the exact duration to be confirmed after a follow-up examination next week.
After the match, Coach Arteta expressed his concern: “He will have to be out for a while. We still need to conduct further checks to understand the extent. He felt pain from the start of the game but tried to push through, until it became too severe to continue.
Clearly, he is very disappointed because he was in great form. He poses a real threat to opponents and is a reliable addition to the team, so his absence is a significant loss for us.”
Madueke’s absence will not only impact Arsenal but may also cause him to miss two upcoming England national team call-ups. This is a harsh setback for the 23-year-old player who had recently established himself at Emirates after leaving Chelsea.
Arsenal is also dealing with other injuries. Defender Piero Hincapie will miss the Carabao Cup match against Port Vale, although Arteta said this is only a short-term absence. Midfielder Martin Odegaard is striving to recover in time for the upcoming Sunday clash with Newcastle.
Against Port Vale, Arteta is likely to rotate his squad heavily. Backup goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is almost certain to start, while the 15-year-old promising talent Max Dowman might get a chance to make his debut.
Arteta praises Kepa’s professionalism: “He always shows a great attitude, prepares thoroughly, and is ready to step in whenever the team needs him.”
Regarding Dowman, the Spanish coach remains cautious: “We need to manage many off-field factors: lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, competitive pressure… Everything is different for a 15-year-old player. We try to keep him involved with the first team but also need to let him play with the U21s and youth squads to ensure proper development.”
As Arsenal enters a busy fixture period, losing Madueke will definitely be a tough test for Arteta. The young English talent had just found stability and was contributing positively, but now must take an extended break, leaving a significant gap in the Gunners’ attack.
