Lionel Messi's entire 'shadow power' at Inter Miami exposed

According to the Daily Mail, Mateusz Klich (a player who played for Leeds from 2017 to 2023 and in the MLS) recently claimed that Inter Miami has been a disaster ever since Messi arrived, as Messi's family has taken control of the club's 'shadow power.'

Messi joined Inter Miami after a glorious career at Barcelona and a brief stint at PSG, where he still managed to add the 2022 World Cup title to his trophy collection. With his immense appeal, Messi instantly made Inter Miami the global media spotlight. In just over a year, he scored 64 goals and provided 31 assists in 76 matches, a figure that shows Messi continues to maintain an incredible performance rate.

However, according to Mateusz Klich (who has experience playing in the Premier League and MLS), what happens behind the scenes is completely different.

Quoted by the Daily Mail, Klich candidly stated: “I wouldn’t recommend anyone to come to Miami as long as Messi is there. It’s a disaster.”

The former Leeds United player revealed many internal problems within Inter Miami: “Many people have left or are leaving, from coaches to medical staff. Organizationally, it’s very poor. Messi’s father almost runs the entire club. Everyone speaks Spanish and no one has authority without their approval. Additionally, the team’s training and match facilities are about 45-50 minutes away from Miami city.”

This statement sparked much debate among the public. Some believe that Messi and his family having significant influence at Inter Miami is understandable, given his enormous commercial and professional value. But for Klich, this causes imbalance and a lack of professionalism within the club.

Not stopping at criticism, Klich also offered advice on better destinations for players wanting to join the MLS:

“I would advise people to choose New York City FC. New York Red Bull FC currently has a better stadium, but New York City FC is also building a very nice one. There are clubs like Columbus Crew or Cincinnati with excellent facilities, but life there is quite dull. If possible, I’d recommend Nashville SC, which is a beautiful place, the capital of Tennessee. Portland and Seattle have a lively atmosphere, but the downside is they are located on the far west of the US, far from the rest.”

Clearly, Klich’s experience playing in the MLS was not pleasant, and Messi along with Inter Miami have become the focus of such complaints. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that Messi has elevated the level of the league, attracting numerous stars to the US and ushering in a new era of development for soccer there.
