Liverpool is determined to secure the top midfielder in the Premier League.

Liverpool is making arrangements to renew Ryan Gravenberch’s contract for the long term.

Liverpool intends to reward Ryan Gravenberch, one of the most impressive players since the season started, with a long-term deal and improved terms.

According to disclosures from talkSPORT, although Gravenberch’s current contract still has nearly three years remaining, the club’s management in the city of Liverpool wants to proactively retain the Dutch midfielder. This move is seen as strategic, reflecting the growing importance of the 23-year-old player in coach Arne Slot’s long-term plans.

While Liverpool still faces various issues to resolve, especially regarding defender Ibrahima Konate who has less than a year left on his contract, early renewal with Gravenberch is not an urgent priority. However, the former Bayern Munich player’s explosive form is making the club’s leadership unable to delay.

In September alone, Gravenberch matched his entire goal contribution from the 2024/25 season. Given more freedom by coach Slot in movement and playmaking, he has become a key figure in midfield control. His remarkable progress has led teammate Virgil van Dijk to praise him as “being in the peak form of his career,” while journalist David Lynch described him as “irreplaceable” at Anfield.

Notably, just a year and a half ago, Gravenberch often had to sit on the bench and had yet to make a real impact in the Premier League. But through perseverance and adaptation, he has developed significantly, becoming a crucial link in midfield. Many experts believe that if he maintains his current form and helps Liverpool win major trophies, Gravenberch could be a contender for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

Financially, Gravenberch currently earns about £150,000 per week, which is lower than at least seven of his teammates in the starting lineup. With his increasingly prominent role, a salary raise and a new contract are well-deserved rewards and also a means for Liverpool to retain a key player amid interest from Europe’s top clubs.

Gravenberch’s development perfectly reflects the philosophy Liverpool is pursuing under coach Arne Slot: giving opportunities to young players, allowing them to flourish, and fostering long-term commitment. If the new contract is signed, Gravenberch will not only become an “irreplaceable pillar” but also a symbol of The Reds’ ambition to conquer the highest peaks in the coming years.
