Real prodigy praises Yamal's talent

Young star Franco Mastantuono congratulated Lamine Yamal after the Barcelona player finished second in the 2025 Ballon d'Or race. The 18-year-old striker also expressed humility when compared to his "rival" of the same generation.

This year's Ballon d'Or competition saw fierce rivalry as Lamine Yamal was highly anticipated to become the new holder of the most prestigious individual award. However, the Spanish talent settled for the runner-up position, conceding victory to Ousmane Dembele of Paris Saint-Germain. A consolation for Yamal was winning the Kopa Trophy (best young player in the world) for the second consecutive year, confirming his status as one of the top young stars globally.

Right after hearing the news of Yamal’s second place, Franco Mastantuono sent his congratulations to the outstanding Barcelona talent. He said: "I congratulate Lamine Yamal on finishing second in the Ballon d'Or. I think he is an amazing player."

When asked about being frequently compared to Yamal, Mastantuono remained modest: "Obviously, I don’t have the right to comment on that. I try not to compare myself to anyone and just focus on playing for my team. I believe that is what leads to personal success."

Notably, Mastantuono’s breakthrough came on a special occasion. In his fifth match for Real Madrid, the 18-year-old scored his first goal, contributing to a 4-1 victory over Levante. This was also the third consecutive time coach Xabi Alonso gave him a starting spot. Interestingly, Mastantuono’s goal coincided with a historic milestone: exactly 72 years ago on September 23, legendary Alfredo Di Stefano scored his first goal for Real Madrid after leaving River Plate.

When asked about this special coincidence, Mastantuono shared his feelings: "They told me about Di Stefano’s goal, it’s unbelievable. I feel very proud to share that special date with him. Of course, I would never compare myself to such a great legend, but these small details are truly special. I have been waiting for this moment for a long time and luckily it has arrived. More importantly, the team secured a great win, and I am very happy."

Mastantuono’s presence at the Bernabeu promises to open a new chapter for Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Yamal continues to establish himself as a key figure for Barcelona’s future. Fans will soon witness a direct showdown between these two gems on October 26, when Real Madrid hosts Barcelona in La Liga.
