Not Mbappe, Alonso prioritizes only two starters for Real

Two Real Madrid stars are considered automatic picks in the starting lineup under coach Xabi Alonso.

According to AS, Alvaro Carreras and Dean Huijsen have emerged as default starters in Real Madrid’s lineup during Xabi Alonso’s tenure. The duo has even exceeded the club’s initial expectations, alongside another newcomer, Franco Mastantuono, who scored in the match against Celta on September 23, becoming the fourth youngest player to score for Real in La Liga, surpassing Vinicius.

The progress of Carreras and Huijsen has been crucial to Alonso’s impressive start. Left-back Carreras, signed from Benfica for around 35 million Euros, quickly adapted and started all seven matches across all competitions. The Spanish talent has somewhat eased concerns on the left flank, a position where Los Blancos lacked confidence with Ferland Mendy or Fran Garcia.

Meanwhile, center-back Dean Huijsen has played six matches, making an impact with an assist, demonstrating solidity and great potential in defense. His impressive ball-playing skills and sharp awareness have made the 2005-born star the first-choice central defender, reinforcing the trust placed in him by the coaching staff.

As for Alonso, the Spanish strategist has made an outstanding start on the sidelines. After a 4-1 victory over Levante , he became the second coach in Real Madrid’s history to win his first six La Liga matches, only behind Vanderlei Luxemburgo (seven wins in 2005).

Thanks to the remarkable development of the newcomers and Alonso’s effective leadership, Real Madrid currently leads La Liga by 5 points over Barcelona, the team that won the domestic treble last season. Additionally, the Royal Club secured a 2-1 win against Marseille in the Champions League group stage opener.

This weekend, Xabi Alonso’s team will visit their fierce rivals Atletico Madrid for the first Madrid derby of the season on September 27. This will be an opportunity for the Spanish coach to equal Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s record and become one of only two coaches to win their first seven La Liga games.
