On the morning of September 25th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized its 4th Patriotic Emulation Congress. During the congress, Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long conferred the Labor Hero title to Coach Mai Đức Chung, the head coach of Vietnam's women's national football team.
According to Decision No. 149/QĐ-CTN signed by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on January 24, 2025, Coach Mai Đức Chung was honored with the title “Labor Hero” for his outstanding achievements in creative labor, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.
At the congress, Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng presented the Labor Hero title and flowers to Coach Mai Đức Chung. The President of the Vietnam Football Federation, Trần Quốc Tuấn, was also present to congratulate him.
Expressing his feelings at the congress, Coach Mai Đức Chung said: “Today is a significant day for me. In my life, I never imagined receiving the highest honor the country can bestow. I am truly touched! I am deeply grateful to the Party, the Government, various agencies, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Vietnam Football Federation, all football fans both domestically and abroad, and especially the women's national team for their tremendous support that has led to this achievement.”
The strategist of the Vietnam women's team emphasized that this honor will motivate him to continue striving and dedicating himself to Vietnamese football: “Although my health may not be as strong as before, with all I have, I constantly remind myself to be more proactive and do my best to help the team achieve even greater success worthy of this title.”
Coach Mai Đức Chung is a veteran mentor of Vietnamese women's football, boasting an impressive record including: 8 Gold Medals at SEA Games (1997, 2003, 2005, 2017, 2019, 2021-2022, 2023), the 2019 AFF Cup championship, fourth place at the 2014 ASIAD, fifth place at the 2022 Asian Cup, and qualifying for the 2023 World Cup.
Previously, Coach Mai Đức Chung also achieved success with men's football, having served as interim head coach of the Vietnam national team during a challenging period and leading Binh Duong Club to the semifinals of the 2009 AFC Cup.
In 2025, Mr. Mai Đức Chung will continue to lead the Vietnam women's team in the qualifiers for the 2026 Asian Cup, the Southeast Asian Championship, and the 2025 SEA Games.
