Right after Gavi finished his knee operation, Lamine Yamal promptly visited his elder teammate in the hospital, sending support and uplifting his spirits.
Barcelona just suffered a major blow as young midfielder Gavi had to undergo knee surgery and will be sidelined for at least 4 to 5 months. This marks the second serious injury the 21-year-old has faced in less than two years, following his ACL tear in 2023.
It is expected that Gavi will miss most of the 2025/26 season and could be absent for over 30 matches, including La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League. Previously, he was out for nearly a year, missing 58 games due to a similar injury.
Coach Hansi Flick acknowledged the bad news but emphasized that surgery was essential to protect his player's long-term career: “When I received the news, it was indeed disappointing, but in the long run, it’s the best choice for Gavi. He needs time to fully recover, taking steady steps for a lasting career. This is a tough challenge, but if anyone has the courage to overcome it, it’s Gavi.”
The midfielder born in 2004 also shared a message on social media after the surgery: “I will come back no matter how long it takes, to keep fighting for Barca. Champions are not made from glory alone, but from rising after every fall. Thank you all for your love and support.”
Support for Gavi has poured in from all directions. The first to visit him in the hospital was Lamine Yamal. The 18-year-old talent sent this message: “My warrior, you will come back stronger than ever. Nothing can defeat you; we’re all here standing by your side.”
Besides Yamal, Pedri, captain Ronald Araujo, and defender Alejandro Balde also came to visit in person. Former Barca star Ousmane Dembele sent his wishes from afar: “Stay strong, little brother. I hope to see you enjoying football again very soon.”
At 21, Gavi still has a bright future ahead. Barcelona believes that with his resilience and fighting spirit, he will overcome adversity to return stronger and continue to be a key player for both the Catalan club and the Spanish national team.
