Former MU Coach Hospitalized Urgently

Former MU coach, Ralf Rangnick, is dealing with severe health problems requiring him to be hospitalized again after an urgent surgical procedure.

According to German media, the strategist, who currently manages the Austrian national team, developed an infection following recent ankle surgery in Murnau, Bavaria.

Rangnick has undergone several ankle surgeries in recent months. Initially, it was a routine operation to address joint wear, but complications arose, leading to a second emergency surgery.

Recently, he had to undergo a third operation and unfortunately contracted a bacterial infection, worsening his health condition. Sources from Bild revealed that these complications and the infection are the reasons for his extended hospital stay.

Due to hospitalization and urgent treatment, Rangnick was forced to postpone announcing the Austrian national team squad for next month’s international matches. Assistant Lars Kornetka is expected to take over his duties during the upcoming training camp. In the recent win against Bosnia & Herzegovina, the 67-year-old coach still had to use an electric bike to move from the tunnel to the technical area to minimize movement on his painful ankle.

Ralf Rangnick gained significant attention when he took over as interim manager of Manchester United after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed at the end of 2021. However, he secured only 11 wins in 29 matches, helping the “Red Devils” reach 58 points. Although initially expected to stay on as an advisor, Rangnick left the club shortly after Erik ten Hag was appointed.

He then accepted the role of Austria’s national team coach in 2022 and immediately made an impact by leading the team to the Euro 2024 round of 16, topping a group that included France, the Netherlands, and Poland. This success restored Rangnick’s reputation, but his current health issues are interrupting his work.

With the infection and prolonged hospitalization, fans of both Austria and Manchester United are sending their best wishes to the veteran strategist. Hopefully, Rangnick will recover swiftly and return to lead Austria in the upcoming qualification campaign, after having helped make the team one of Europe’s most intriguing football stories.
