Round 5 of the LP Bank V-League 2025/26 sees a pivotal clash between Nam Dinh and Hanoi Police (CAHN) at Thien Truong Stadium. This game affects both sides’ title hopes and acts as a significant challenge given their commitments across various tournaments.
Nam Dinh is showing worrying signs of decline. After 5 matches, coach Vu Hong Viet’s team has 2 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses, sitting 7th, 5 points behind leaders Ninh Binh despite having played one more game. Their attack has scored only 5 goals, while the defense has conceded 6.
These figures sharply contrast with their explosive start to the 2023/24 season when Nam Dinh scored 13 goals in 5 matches. Coach Vu Hong Viet is still struggling with the foreign player issue: Kyle Hudlin has been figured out, Percy Tau and Romulo have yet to make an impact, and Caio Cesar and Brenner have been neutralized by opponents, resulting in a predictable offense.
In contrast, CAHN is returning to their champion form. Coach Alexandre Polking’s squad remains unbeaten in their last 5 V-League matches (4 wins, 1 draw), with their only recent defeat coming against BG Pathum United at the ASEAN Club Championship.
Recently, despite difficulties, CAHN defeated Cebu FC (Philippines) to keep their hopes alive in the regional competition. Coach Polking’s squad is energized with Quang Hai, Viet Anh, and Adou Minh back after rest. Besides quality domestic stars, CAHN boasts several consistent scorers like Alan, Leo Artur, Quang Hai, Dinh Bac, and Jason Quang Vinh, who was the hero against Cebu.
Head-to-head history also works against Nam Dinh. Over the last 3 seasons, the Nam team has only 2 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses against CAHN, and notably has never beaten them at home in Thien Truong Stadium.
At the start of this season, Nam Dinh lost the National Super Cup after a 2-3 defeat to CAHN. Given their current form, Nam Dinh is unlikely to cause an upset, especially as their opponent has a well-balanced squad and top-level competitive experience.
This match carries great significance for both sides. Nam Dinh needs points to avoid falling behind, while CAHN must win to stay close to Ninh Binh. With their squad depth and consistency, CAHN is likely to leave Thien Truong with all three points.

At Vinh Stadium, SLNA will host Ho Chi Minh City Police (CATP.HCM), who are currently in the Top 3 with 10 points, boasting a strong attack powered by Tien Linh and two foreign players, Raphael Utzig and Endrick Dos Santos.
CATP.HCM’s diverse scoring ability, with many domestic players stepping up, makes them very unpredictable so far. Meanwhile, SLNA has only 4 points from 4 matches and sits near the bottom. A win for CATP.HCM would put great pressure on Ninh Binh.
The league leaders Ninh Binh (12 points) will play late this round with a tough away trip to Lach Tray Stadium against Hai Phong. Coach Chu Dinh Nghiem’s team stands 5th with 7 points. Hai Phong has built a solid defensive style and their players have scored regularly this season. This promises to be a stern test for Coach Gerard Castano’s squad.
Moreover, the match in the port city will test the resilience of Hoang Duc and his teammates. The challenge is tough, but if overcome, Ninh Binh will be a strong contender for this season’s title. Since the start of the season, Coach Castano’s team has had a prolific attack with most starting midfielders and forwards scoring. Dinh Trieu faces an intriguing challenge in this game.
Viettel Army Team (8 points, 4th place) will play at home against Hong Linh Ha Tinh. The visitors are tough opponents, but with a balanced squad and stable form, Coach Velizar Popov’s players are likely to seize the chance to stay close to Ninh Binh.
However, a draw is highly possible as Hong Linh Ha Tinh continues to show their "naughty" nature as they did last season. In round 4, despite playing with one less player for over 80 minutes and trailing, they still forced SLNA to share points at Vinh Stadium.
At the bottom, HAGL faces the risk of sinking further when visiting PVF-CAND. Coach Thach Bao Khanh’s team remains unbeaten at home. PVF-CAND’s 2 matches and 4 points so far all come from their home ground. They have 3 points more than HAGL and are rated higher before kickoff. Another loss would keep HAGL stuck at the bottom.
Also struggling, Hanoi FC hopes to break their streak when facing Thanh Hoa. Both teams have yet to win after 4 rounds, each with 2 points. Thanh Hoa has shown signs of bad luck this season. With home advantage and the improving form of Van Quyet and teammates, Hanoi FC is expected to claim their first victory.
