Coach Matthew McConkey thinks Svay Rieng FC outplayed Nam Dinh but failed to get a fair outcome.
Recently, Svay Rieng from Cambodia caused significant challenges for Nam Dinh. They dominated the game and even created more scoring chances, forcing the home team to defend intensely.
However, Nam Dinh also showed their class by making the most of their opportunities to finish off the opponent.
After the match, Svay Rieng’s coach Matthew McConkey said his team played better but couldn’t secure a deserved result.
"Anyone who watched the match could see which team performed better. This was a 50-50 game for both sides. Even before Nam Dinh received a red card, we were controlling the match.
Our team failed to capitalize on the chances we had, while Nam Dinh converted theirs into goals. That’s football — sometimes it gives you hope but you don’t get what you deserve. Still, today we played well."
Meanwhile, striker Lam Ti Phong also praised Svay Rieng FC:
"Svay Rieng is a tough opponent with many quality foreign players and naturalized athletes, especially number 98 (Patrick Monteiro). However, our team studied their style carefully and prepared well, which led to our victory. The coaching staff built a detailed strategy combined with the team’s strong fighting spirit, which was the key to today’s win."
The 3 points gained against Svay Rieng allow Nam Dinh to temporarily rise to second place, behind the leader Johor Darul Ta'zim (2 matches, 6 points). This victory also boosts Nam Dinh’s morale ahead of the challenging upcoming match against CAHN in the V-League.
As for the Southeast Asia Club Cup, Nam Dinh will not play their next match against Shan United until December.
