Sergio Busquets plans to end his professional soccer career after the 2025 MLS season with Inter Miami.
Legendary Sergio Busquets has officially declared he will hang up his boots at the conclusion of the 2025 MLS season. The Inter Miami midfielder is one of the most decorated players of his generation, having won numerous titles with Barcelona and the Spanish national team before reuniting with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami in 2023.
Busquets, aged 37 this year, made the announcement in a video posted on his personal social media accounts.
“I want to sincerely thank everyone, and football itself, for everything. Football will forever be a part of this beautiful story,” he wrote in the caption.
Additionally, Busquets expressed gratitude to FC Barcelona, the Spanish national team, and Inter Miami for their support throughout his lengthy career. He also thanked the fans who have supported him over the years.
Busquets is regarded as one of the greatest defensive midfielders of all time, having redefined the role and becoming a cornerstone for both Barcelona and Spain for many years.
A product of the La Masia academy, he spent most of his professional career with the Catalan club, helping them secure 9 La Liga titles, 7 Copa del Rey trophies, and 3 Champions League titles.
Over 15 seasons, Busquets appeared 721 times for Barcelona, ranking third in the club’s history for most appearances. At the international level, he is also third in Spain’s all-time cap list with 143 matches. He achieved great success, playing a key role in Spain’s 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 victories.
In the final phase of his career, Busquets joined MLS club Inter Miami, where he reunited with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez.
