Spain's national team coach Luis de la Fuente mentioned that he does not pay much attention to Hansi Flick's grievances about Lamine Yamal's injury case.
Luis de la Fuente said he neither recalls nor cares about Hansi Flick's complaints about how the national team managed Lamine Yamal's situation.
The Barcelona star returned from the national team camp with a groin injury after playing more than 70 minutes in both victories over Bulgaria and Turkey in the World Cup qualifiers.
The 18-year-old then missed Barcelona’s matches against Valencia, Newcastle United, Getafe, and Real Oviedo. Flick criticized Spain for not properly taking care of Yamal. De la Fuente responded: “Right now, I don’t remember what Flick said. Honestly, it’s nothing that concerns me.”
Yamal already had a minor groin issue before joining the squad, but starting both matches worsened the injury. Flick complained that Yamal couldn’t train and could only play after taking painkillers: “This is not how you take care of a player. Spain has the strongest squad in the world, every position is excellent, but I’m truly saddened by this matter.”
He also acknowledged communication issues: “Maybe it’s because my Spanish isn’t very good, and his English isn’t either. Usually, when many players are called up, communication should be better. I was once Germany’s coach, so I understand how tough this job is, but I always keep good contact with the clubs.”
After the win over Real Oviedo, when asked about De la Fuente’s response, Flick said: “It’s fine. That’s his opinion, and I can accept it.”
Before the injury, Yamal scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists in just 3 appearances for Barcelona this season. He is expected to return soon for Barcelona’s matches against Real Sociedad in LaLiga this weekend and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League next week. The Catalan club currently faces other injury issues with players like Marc-André ter Stegen, Alejandro Balde, Fermín López, and Gavi.
