The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) is listed among the nominees for two awards at the forthcoming AFC Awards event.
Recently, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced the anticipated nominee lists for the AFC Awards Riyadh 2025, scheduled for October 16.
The 29th edition of the awards ceremony will be held at the King Fahad Cultural Centre, celebrating the continent’s best individuals and teams across 20 award categories.
Notably, in the "Football Federation of the Year" category, which honors member associations with outstanding activities in 2025, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has been included in the Top 3 nominees for the Diamond tier (the second highest level after Platinum), alongside the Chinese Football Association and the Football Association of Thailand.
Moreover, VFF is also nominated for the "AFC President’s Recognition Award for Grassroots Football." This category recognizes federations that have made significant efforts to promote community football and encourage widespread public participation in sports. In this category, VFF is placed in the Bronze level together with the Bangladesh Football Federation and the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association.
Among the player nominations, a Southeast Asian forward has made it to the top 3 candidates for AFC Player of the Year: Arif Aiman from Malaysia. Arif Aiman is the first Malaysian ever nominated after an impressive 2024/25 season. He shone for Johor Darul Ta’zim in Asia’s top competition, scoring 5 goals and helping the team reach the Round of 16 in the AFC Champions League Elite, while also securing a domestic treble. At 23, he is a key player for Malaysia’s national team on their road to the 2027 Asian Cup. Arif Aiman is one of the few local players to start regularly in Johor Darul Ta’zim’s multi-million-dollar foreign lineup. The other two nominees are Akram Afif from Qatar and Salem Al Dawsari.
The award for Asian players competing abroad features three finalists: striker Mehdi Taremi (Iran), Takefusa Kubo (Japan), and Lee Kang-in (South Korea).
