Coach Choi Won-kwon expressed the challenges he is encountering at Thanh Hóa, causing the club to struggle to stay on the correct track.
Thanh Hóa club still cannot break free from its gloomy streak; their recent away match in Hanoi ended in disappointment again. The Thanh Hóa team took the lead but eventually lost after being overturned by Hanoi.
After the match, Coach Choi Won-kwon explained the reasons behind the defeat.
“In the first half, we played quite well, but in the second half, the players couldn’t keep up with the pace of the game. There are many reasons, but the most important is that Hanoi performed better. They knew how to control the ball, moved strategically, and executed effective gameplay.
Actually, Thanh Hóa’s opening goal gave us an advantage, but facing Hanoi on their home ground made things difficult. My players often lost the ball easily, giving the opponent opportunities to exploit."
Regarding young stars like Thái Sơn, Ngọc Mỹ, and Văn Thuận, Coach Choi Won-kwon acknowledged their potential but also admitted their inconsistency.
“About the performances of U23 players such as Thái Sơn, Văn Thuận, and Ngọc Mỹ, I believe they all have potential. However, while Hanoi boasts many experienced players who have represented the national team like Văn Quyết, Tuấn Hải, Hùng Dũng, Duy Mạnh, Thành Chung, and Hai Long, our three young players still lack experience and maturity. In the home match against Hải Phòng, they played well, but maintaining consistent performance remains a big challenge. Today, they couldn’t replicate their previous display, and that requires more time and opportunities to improve through experience.”
Notably, the Korean strategist also revealed internal issues within the team.
“Thanh Hóa is currently facing difficulties in many aspects, not only in on-field performance but also in logistics. Thanh Hóa still cannot fully meet all the provisions, especially regarding salaries. Nevertheless, the players maintain professionalism, showing up and giving their all in every match.”
