Dong A Thanh Hoa has gone five matches without a win, and the Korean coach reveals the truth

Dong A Thanh Hoa has not achieved any wins after the first five rounds of the LPBank V-League 2025/26. Head coach Choi Won-kwon has explained the reasons and shared the team's current condition.

On the evening of September 26, although they took an early lead in the 2nd minute thanks to striker Rimario Gordon’s goal, Thanh Hoa still allowed Hanoi FC to stage a comeback and win 2-1 in the 5th round of the V-League. This defeat caused Coach Choi’s team to fall to the second-last position on the standings with only 2 points from 5 games, and the Korean coach’s future is now uncertain.

Speaking after the match, Mr. Choi said: “We performed well in the first half, but in the second half, we lost our pace. The main reason is that Hanoi played better; they knew how to manage the ball, move effectively, and organize their tactics. We also lost possession too easily, giving the opponents opportunities to exploit."

The 43-year-old coach acknowledged that the difference in experience was a crucial factor: “Thanh Son, Van Thuan, and Ngoc My are all promising players but still under the U23 age group, whereas Hanoi has many national team members like Van Quyet, Tuan Hai, Hung Dung, Duy Manh, Thanh Chung, and Hai Long. My young players still lack consistency and high-level competitive experience."

Coach Choi also disclosed off-field challenges: “Thanh Hoa has not been able to fully provide all the benefits, especially salaries. This is also a considerable obstacle. Nonetheless, the players continue to show professionalism and give their utmost effort in every game."

In the 6th round of the LPBank V-League 2025/26, Thanh Hoa will return to their home ground to face Becamex TP.HCM on October 2.
