Inter Miami midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has officially been sanctioned by MLS following the 4-0 victory over New York City.
MLS fined Inter Miami's Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul for simulation or exaggeration of a foul during the recent match against New York City, where 'Las Garzas' secured a 4-0 win.
"The MLS Disciplinary Committee has imposed an undisclosed fine on Inter Miami midfielder Rodrigo De Paul for violating the simulation/exaggeration policy in the 26th minute of the match between Inter Miami and New York City FC on September 24," the North American league announced in a press release.
The federation attached a video of the controversial incident, showing De Paul raising his hand to his face after being pushed by opposing player Andrés Perea, although the footage clearly shows no contact with his face.
The Argentine player fell to the ground after the push, which appeared to hit his left shoulder, and the referee awarded a foul to Inter Miami despite protests from Perea.
Rodrigo De Paul joined Inter Miami in the summer of 2025 from Atlético Madrid, where he spent three seasons. The transfer fee was approximately 15 million Euros, a significant amount to acquire such an influential midfielder. This move is part of Inter Miami's strategy to build a strong squad, especially after Lionel Messi's arrival attracted global attention.
De Paul is not only a talented midfielder but also Messi's trusted right-hand man, both in the Argentina national team and at Inter Miami. He consistently protects Messi on the field, ready to run for him and act as a shield against opponents' attacks.
Their relationship goes beyond teammates on the pitch; they share a close friendship off the field. Known for his fierce determination and tireless dedication, De Paul is often called Messi's "bodyguard." His tough tackles and resilience have made him an indispensable part of the successes of both Argentina and Inter Miami recently.
