Jose Mourinho breaks his silence upon returning to Chelsea
Jose Mourinho acknowledges that he will come back “home” when Benfica plays against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming Champions League fixture.
Coach Jose Mourinho spent a total of 7 years managing Chelsea across two spells, winning 8 trophies with the club, including three league titles in the Premier League. He is regarded as the greatest manager in the history of The Blues and remains a legend at Stamford Bridge despite two turbulent departures in 2007 and 2015.
After being officially appointed as Benfica’s head coach last week, Mourinho will return to west London next week when Chelsea hosts the Portuguese side in the second group stage match of the 2025/26 Champions League season.
Enzo Maresca’s squad recently lost 1-2 to Bayern Munich in their opening match on September 17, and they hope to secure their first Champions League victory since March 2023 when facing Benfica.
Mourinho speaks about his return to face Chelsea
“To give you an idea, my son goes to watch the matches and works from home. We live so close that just hearing the noise from the stadium tells us the result. I’m always there, so coming back really feels like coming home. This is the stadium where I won three Premier League titles, where I made history with Chelsea. Chelsea is part of my history, and I’m part of Chelsea’s history,” Mourinho shared with Stan Sport Football ahead of his return to Stamford Bridge.
“But that’s football. They want to win and so do I. As I said, before the match I’ll know where I stand, and after the match I’ll know where I stand. But during the game, I believe I have the strength to push everything aside and focus solely on fighting.”
The match between Chelsea and Benfica will take place at 2:00 AM on October 1 (Vietnam time).
