Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, acting president of the Malaysian Football Association, stated that he has asked FIFA for a detailed clarification of the punishment and comforted supporters at home.
The case involving the Malaysian Football Association and seven naturalized players receiving penalties from FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee continues to attract significant attention. Recently, FAM’s acting president, Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, spoke out to reassure fans and all parties involved. He confirmed that the Malaysian Football Association has officially requested a detailed explanation and is awaiting the verdict from FIFA’s Players’ Status Committee.
"We have formally asked FIFA for a thorough and clear explanation of the sanction. The Players’ Status Committee will make the final decision. After that, we will consider the next steps to take," NST quoted Datuk Yusoff as saying.
"FAM understands the worries of all parties involved, including domestic football supporters, and we are actively taking immediate steps to resolve this matter," he added.
In another development, the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who is behind Malaysia’s player naturalization project, expressed concerns about FIFA’s sanctions against Malaysia and released official documents to prove the legitimacy of the players involved.
“The Malaysian Football Association (FAM) followed all procedures and cooperated fully with FIFA and the Malaysian government. FIFA had previously approved everything, so why has the decision changed now? What happened to cause this ruling?”Tunku Ismail posted on X today.
"Is there an external influence affecting FIFA’s decision?", he questioned.
Not only the Malaysian Football Association but Southeast Asian football as a whole is awaiting the outcome of this matter. If the appeal fails, it is highly likely that Malaysia’s national team will be deemed to have lost the match against Vietnam on June 10 (when Malaysia originally won 4-0 thanks to the naturalized players).
