Altay Bayindir expressed his disappointment after the defeat against Brentford, raising many questions regarding Ruben Amorim’s staffing choices at Manchester United.
Manchester United continues to face a wave of criticism following their loss to Brentford, with the spotlight this time on the goalkeeper position. Altay Bayindir, trusted by Ruben Amorim to start, reacted strongly on the pitch, causing many to question the Portuguese coach’s selection decisions.
Within the first 20 minutes at G-Tech Stadium, Man Utd conceded two goals in a row from the same player – Igor Tudor. The first goal came after a weak defensive line allowed the opponent to break through and shoot. For the second, although Bayindir managed to block Kevin Schade’s cross, Tudor’s follow-up shot still put Brentford ahead 2-0. Overwhelmed with frustration, the Turkish keeper slammed his hand on the ground and collapsed on the pitch, a reaction symbolizing United’s struggles in the first half.
Bayindir has started every Premier League match since the season began under Amorim but has yet to keep a clean sheet. This statistic has led many to doubt the Portuguese coach’s decision to drop Andre Onana and not bring in a top-class goalkeeper during the recent transfer window.
Previously, MU considered signing prominent names like Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, those deals fell through, with Martinez staying at Aston Villa and Donnarumma joining Manchester City. As a result, the Red Devils only acquired Senne Lammens, a young goalkeeper who has yet to see playing time.
Nevertheless, Man United found some hope when Benjamin Sesko quickly reduced the deficit with his first goal for the club. The forward also created several other chances but was unlucky in finishing. Still, the attack couldn’t compensate for the defensive errors and mistakes in goal.
Brentford did not ease their offensive pressure, continuously exploiting set-piece situations that forced Bayindir to work hard. Despite some impressive saves, the 25-year-old keeper could not hide his helplessness against Man Utd’s fragile defense.
This defeat not only shook the fans’ confidence but also put Amorim under intense pressure. Whether to continue playing Bayindir or give Lammens a chance in the upcoming match against Sunderland has become a major question. Some experts believe the Portuguese coach is taking a big risk with his current choice, especially as Man Utd keeps conceding and dropping crucial points.
Clearly, Bayindir’s angry reaction is not just personal frustration but also reflects deeper issues in Amorim’s personnel strategy. Without swift changes, the coach will face mounting pressure from both fans and analysts.
