West Ham United has officially announced the sacking of head coach Graham Potter after just 9 months in charge.
Graham Potter took over at West Ham in January 2025 on a two-and-a-half-year contract, succeeding Julen Lopetegui. However, following a disappointing start, the 50-year-old coach lasted less than a year.
Statistics show West Ham won only 6 out of 25 matches under Potter, with 5 draws and 14 losses. The London club ended last season with a poor run of form and began the 2025/26 season with heavy defeats: 1-5 to Chelsea, 0-3 to Tottenham, and an early exit from the League Cup.
A 3-0 victory at Nottingham Forest briefly raised hopes but was not enough to ease the pressure. At London Stadium, many fans left early during recent losses, showing their frustration with the team's lackluster performances.
In a statement released on social media platform X, West Ham emphasized: “The results and performances from the latter half of last season through to the start of this one have not met expectations. The board believes a change is necessary to improve the club’s standing in the Premier League as soon as possible.”. Alongside Potter, the entire coaching staff including Bruno Saltor, Billy Reid, Narcis Pelach, Casper Ankergren, and Linus Kandolin have also departed the club.
West Ham’s management expressed gratitude to Potter and his team and confirmed that the search for a new head coach is underway, though no further comments were made. According to British media, Gary O’Neil, former manager of Wolves and Bournemouth, is among the potential candidates.
After winning only 3 of the last 15 Premier League matches, West Ham now faces the threat of a relegation battle. Potter is the second manager to be sacked in the Premier League this season, following Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest. With back-to-back early dismissals at Chelsea and West Ham, Potter’s career is at a crossroads, while “The Hammers” urgently seek someone to revive the team.
