Manchester United suffered a humiliating 1-3 defeat again, but Amolin refuses to resign and firmly believes in a comeback! Their record is now close to the level when Ten Hag was dismissed.

Manchester United visited Brentford hoping to achieve back-to-back wins, but the hosts dominated with a 3-1 victory, achieving their first consecutive wins against the Red Devils in 88 years. Despite Sheshko scoring his first goal after an €85 million transfer to United, captain Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty, and the team couldn’t recover.

This match saw Manchester United wear their black kit in tribute to Cantona for the first time. Originally, the kit was fully black (shirt, shorts, and socks), but since Brentford wore black shorts and socks, United had to switch to yellow socks, which looked awkward—much like their performance on the pitch.

Amolin stuck with his preferred 3-4-3 formation. The returning Diogo Dalot started again at right wing-back, replacing the injured Mazraoui. Cunha returned to the frontline, forming a £200 million attacking trio with Mbemo and Sheshko. In midfield, Ugarte replaced the suspended Casemiro to partner Bruno Fernandes, while Coby Meno remained on the bench.

To counter Brentford’s style, Amolin deployed Maguire and De Ligt as a central defensive duo to withstand aerial attacks. However, the “Bee Army” proved too sharp; despite their aerial prowess, the two center-backs couldn’t hold firm. In the 8th minute, Cunha was fouled outside the box, and Jordan Henderson launched a long ball. Maguire was caught offside, allowing Igor Thiago a clear chance to volley into the far corner, giving Brentford a 1-0 lead over Manchester United.

Manchester United were completely on the back foot, and if not for goalkeeper Alty Bayindir’s two incredible saves, Brentford’s lead could have grown quickly. The heavily criticized Turkish keeper denied two headers from the home side, with the second save being particularly spectacular.

Unfortunately, Bayindir’s heroics lasted only two minutes. In the 20th minute, he parried a tight-angle shot from Kevin Schade on the left, pushing the ball to the center of the goal, where Thiago scored his second goal with a follow-up, extending Brentford’s lead to 2-0 over Manchester United.

Among the 1,725 traveling Manchester United fans, excitement erupted when Sheshko scored his first goal for the club. The goal was hard-earned: after a cross from Patrick Dogu on the left, Sheshko attempted shots with his head, right foot, and left foot before finally finding the net, bringing Manchester United back to 1-2 against Brentford.

Regrettably, Manchester United’s attacking efforts were very weak, with home fans chanting: “Brian, Brian (Mbemo), what’s the score?”

Mbemo has been the most consistent attacking player for Manchester United. When he received a cross from Dalot on the right, he was brought down by Nathan Collins. Referee Craig Pawson awarded a penalty. However, VAR took four minutes to decide whether Collins should receive a red card. Pawson ultimately ruled that Mbemo did not have full control of the ball, so Collins was only shown a yellow card.

Amolin appeared restless as usual, shaking his head and avoiding looking at Bruno Fernandes as he prepared to take the penalty. Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher guessed correctly and saved Fernandes’ penalty. This marked the second consecutive month that the Manchester United captain missed a penalty; this season, he has scored only one out of three attempts.

Substitutions including Meno, Mount, and Zirkzee did not significantly change the game’s dynamics. Although Manchester United had 14 shots compared to Brentford’s 10, Brentford created more high-quality chances with six compared to United’s four.

In stoppage time, Brentford sealed the victory on a counterattack. Matthias Jensen received a pass from Yarmoluk, took a shot from outside the box, and beat Bayindir again, leading to Manchester United’s 1-3 defeat at Brentford Community Stadium.

Manchester United still have not managed to win back-to-back Premier League matches in a single season, a disappointing streak that began in May 2024. Even worse, Amolin’s team has lost three out of six league games. After four defeats in nine matches last October, Ten Hag was dismissed.

Before the match, Amolin warned that if Manchester United wasted the momentum gained from beating Chelsea, they would face serious trouble. That is exactly what happened. Under Amolin’s leadership in 32 league games, United have only won nine times. At the final moments, all spectators at Brentford Community Stadium chanted, “Get sacked by tomorrow morning!”

However, the Manchester United coach emphasized that he still has confidence in guiding the team to better results. After the match, Amolin said: “Football, like life, has its ups and downs. When you win, everything seems possible, and positive momentum builds; when you lose, you’re back to square one and must work hard again to win, because victories help rebuild that momentum. I’ve always taken my responsibilities seriously. If my team wins, my mindset naturally changes, which is normal. But I remain confident because I know what I need to do.”

Amolin reiterated his determination to stay at Manchester United: “Regarding this, I can only repeat what I say after every loss: sometimes you see the team playing very well and making progress, but other times you see no signs of improvement. However, it is precisely these experiences that give me confidence that Manchester United will eventually make a comeback! It’s always the same conversation, and the outcome depends on the next game. We can only strive to win the next match and make necessary improvements.”

Although Amolin and the Manchester United staff consistently stress improvements in attacking efficiency, fewer goals conceded, more shots on target, and significant statistical progress, what truly matters are the results. The Red Devils’ performance in a single-competition season remains deeply disappointing. Amolin admitted feeling the pain: “Losing at the club always feels the same—very painful. However, we have to shift our focus to the next game.”

If this poor situation continues, Amolin is likely to be dismissed, ending his difficult tenure. But the 40-year-old Portuguese coach once again denied that his 3-4-3 formation is to blame for the poor results. “It’s always like this. When Manchester United win, people don’t credit the formation; when they lose, the formation gets blamed. I believe the problem lies more in how we play: we completely played Brentford’s way. We always used long balls, so the game’s rhythm never stabilized.”

Amolin added: “We should play according to our own tactics rather than imitate the opponent’s style, in which they are superior. We never played according to our tactics or pressed the opposition actively. But I think the second half was better. The most important thing is to give your best in the match, like we did against Liverpool last year or at the start of the season against Arsenal. It’s only the beginning of the season; we must win the next game. I’m not asking for ten wins in a row; just two or three consecutive wins would make a huge difference.”
