Erling Haaland kept shining brightly by scoring twice against Burnley, raising his goal tally to 8, which led Coach Pep Guardiola to admit that his numbers are “insane.”
Manchester City’s coach Pep Guardiola spared no praise for Erling Haaland, describing the Norwegian striker’s statistics as “insane,” after he scored a late brace in the 5-1 victory over Burnley on the evening of September 27th. With this achievement, Haaland has taken the lead in the Premier League with 8 goals in just 6 matches.
Haaland also recently set a record in the Champions League earlier this month, becoming the fastest player to reach 50 goals in history, achieving it in only 49 games, during the 2-0 win against Napoli: “Haaland’s numbers are truly insane. We can joke about it, but it really is extraordinary,” Pep Guardiola said during the post-match press conference.
The Spanish manager continued: “He is an incredibly vital player for us. Haaland always carries the feeling that he can score, and I am genuinely pleased with the team’s overall performance this time.”
The 24-year-old striker has now scored in 4 consecutive Premier League matches. Previously, Man City had suffered two back-to-back defeats against Tottenham and Brighton but quickly regained momentum with a 3-0 win in the Manchester derby, a draw against Arsenal, and then a demolition of Burnley to get back on track.
Returning to action after missing the 2-0 League Cup win over Huddersfield Town due to a back injury, Haaland not only scored but also assisted Matheus Nunes to double Man City’s lead. Coach Pep Guardiola emphasized that the team is rediscovering their spirit of unity: “I think in the match against Man United, the players showed a different image, a different body language. Even though they didn’t play well against Arsenal, the way they defended and supported each other… that’s the key to everything.”
Pep Guardiola also expressed great happiness seeing his team return to winning ways: “It was a really good performance, except for about 10 to 15 minutes when we lost our rhythm. Burnley usually have very close results, but today we scored five goals.”
The emphatic 5-1 victory over Burnley temporarily places Man City 6th in the Premier League standings, 5 points behind leaders Liverpool, but Pep Guardiola’s squad is only 2 points away from Crystal Palace in 2nd place.
