The Polish football legend believes Robert Lewandowski should soon depart Barcelona to find a new club where he can reclaim his position as the leading star in the attack.
Robert Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona is once again under discussion as Polish goalkeeper legend Jan Tomaszewski publicly advises him to leave Camp Nou soon to regain his status as the number one player in a top team.
In a statement to Super Express Sport, Tomaszewski said Lewandowski is being “overshadowed” by other stars at Barcelona and no longer has the full trust of his teammates. “Robert should close this chapter and move to Saudi Arabia, like Ronaldo or Benzema. At Barca, he doesn’t get many passes and isn’t the focal point,” he emphasized.
Tomaszewski also criticized the 2025 Ballon d'Or results, where Lewandowski ranked only 17th: “He has been nominated 10 times, which is impressive. But in my opinion, Robert deserves to be in the top 10, not at such a low position.”
However, this opinion is controversial since Lewandowski continues to perform impressively. Last season, he played 34 La Liga matches and scored 27 goals. This season, the 37-year-old striker has already scored 3 goals in just 5 games. Coach Hansi Flick often rotates the forward line with Ferran Torres and Marcus Rashford, but this has not significantly affected the Polish striker’s scoring ability.
In the interview, Tomaszewski also criticized Hansi Flick, suggesting the German coach has not fully utilized the squad’s quality: “Barcelona have a squad strong enough to win the Champions League, yet Flick lost to Inter and was crushed by PSG in the final. He should not have his contract extended.”
Nevertheless, Barca still show an exciting attacking style and remain top contenders for the La Liga title. A victory against Real Sociedad this weekend could see them overtake Real Madrid to claim first place.
Lewandowski’s contract runs until summer 2026, with an option to extend for another year. Although the Saudi Pro League is mentioned as a potential destination, the Polish striker has demonstrated he still has the quality to continue succeeding in European football.
