The owner of MU personally spoke with a notable figure who is a strong candidate to replace Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim is facing significant pressure after Manchester United continued to suffer defeats in the Premier League. The candidates ready to replace him have come to light.

MU is preparing plans to replace Ruben Amorim.

Just a week ago, the Portuguese coach achieved a 2-1 win against Chelsea at Old Trafford, opening the chance for two consecutive domestic victories – something he has not yet managed since taking over the team nearly a year ago.

However, that hope quickly disappeared when United lost 1-3 to Brentford. The "Red Devils" started off weak and quickly fell behind 0-2 before Benjamin Sesko scored the club’s first goal, rekindling hope for a comeback.

MU owner Ratcliffe has spoken with former England coach Gareth Southgate, a strong candidate to replace Ruben Amorim in leading the "Red Devils."

However, the turning point came when Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty after a controversial decision by the referee who did not send off Nathan Collins. When Brentford scored again in stoppage time, Amorim suffered his 17th loss in 33 Premier League matches as manager.

After the game, Amorim was asked if he still felt confident about changing the situation. The 39-year-old coach said: "Football is a series of highs and lows. When you win, you feel everything is going the right way. But when you lose, you are back to square one and must fight for a win to create new motivation. I always do my job. If we win, my mood changes. That’s normal. I am always confident because I know what I need to do."

He added: "I have nothing new to say except what I always repeat whenever the team loses. Sometimes we see the team playing very well, showing clear improvement, but sometimes that progress doesn’t appear, and that makes people lack confidence to say Manchester United will soon recover."

According to talkSPORT, United’s management has included Gareth Southgate in the final three candidates to replace Amorim. Notably, Southgate is said to have directly contacted Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The Manchester club is expected to wait until November to make a decision, aiming to reduce the compensation payout when Amorim officially reaches one year in charge.

Southgate, who left his role as England’s head coach in July 2024, is currently free and has had initial discussions to evaluate the possibility of taking over at Old Trafford. Besides him, United is also considering two other candidates: Oliver Glasner, Crystal Palace’s head coach, and Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth’s manager.

Notably, Southgate was linked to the Old Trafford managerial position before Amorim’s appointment. Now, his name has reappeared as Amorim may face a "four-match ultimatum," directly determining his future at Manchester United.
