The first V-League coach to resign this season

Coach Phan Như Thuật of SLNA has handed in his resignation after the team's recent disappointing results.

Most recently, according to sources from Bongdaplus, Coach Phan Như Thuật has officially resigned from his position as head coach of SLNA. He made this decision immediately after a 2-3 home defeat against Công an TP.HCM. This marks the second time the 41-year-old coach has stepped down as the leader of the Nghệ An club.

SLNA has had a very difficult start to the 2025/26 V-League season. After 5 rounds, the Nghệ An team has only secured 1 win, 1 draw, earning 4 points and ranking 11th on the table. It is highly likely that SLNA will be fighting to avoid relegation again this season.

Before the season, they even failed to retain their emerging young talents like goalkeeper Văn Việt and forward Đinh Xuân Tiến. The very young squad combined with underwhelming foreign players makes it difficult for SLNA to improve their performance.

Regarding Coach Phan Như Thuật, this is his second time leaving the hot seat at SLNA. Previously, in 2023, the former player was appointed head coach of SLNA, replacing Nguyễn Huy Hoàng from round 11 of the 2023 V-League. By the 2024 season, he stepped down to make way for Coach Phạm Anh Tuấn.

Later, Coach Phan Như Thuật returned in November 2024 and has been leading the team since then. His most notable achievement was helping SLNA avoid relegation and reach the final of the 2024/2025 National Cup.

In the near future, SLNA will actively search for a replacement for Coach Phan Như Thuật. The new head coach will have about two weeks to prepare with the team during the break reserved for the national team.
