The newly promoted dark horse - Ninh Binh Club recorded their first draw of the new season after an away match against Hai Phong Club. Meanwhile, reigning champions Thep Xanh Nam Dinh suffered their second consecutive home defeat against Hanoi Police Club.

The opening match of round 5 in V.League 1-2025/2026 (held on September 26) witnessed Hanoi Club’s first victory of the season over visiting Dong A Thanh Hoa. Despite falling behind early in the 2nd minute by Rimario Gordon’s opener, Hanoi Club fought determinedly and scored two goals in the second half by Daniel Passira (48th minute) and Luiz Fernando (58th minute). The 2-1 win against the bottom-ranked team not only earned the capital team their first full 3 points but also boosted the confidence and spirit of Van Quyet and his teammates in their championship pursuit.

The next three matches of round 5 took place on September 27. Traveling to Vinh Stadium, Coach Le Huynh Duc’s team faced a tough challenge after conceding two early goals from the home side Song Lam Nghe An (Van Luong at 15 minutes and Olaha at 21 minutes). However, Ho Chi Minh City Police Club did not lose control and staged an impressive comeback. At the 45th minute, Tien Linh scored to reduce the deficit to 1-2, setting the stage for Makrillos Peter and Quoc Cuong to score in the second half and secure a 3-2 victory.

The victory by Ho Chi Minh City Police Club made the race at the top of the standings even more exciting. With these 3 points, they are temporarily level on points with Ninh Binh Club and Hanoi Police Club, though having played one more match.

At Go Dau Stadium, Coach Anh Duc’s team extended their disappointing run after a 1-2 loss to visiting SHB Da Nang. Utilizing home advantage, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City Club scored early in the 4th minute. However, the hosts could not maintain the lead as Milan Makaric equalized in the 26th minute and later completed his brace in stoppage time (90+3 minutes) to seal a 2-1 win for SHB Da Nang. Despite this opening round victory for SHB Da Nang, it marked Becamex Ho Chi Minh City’s fourth consecutive defeat this season.

The match between PVF-CAND Club and Hoang Anh Gia Lai ended goalless. The new season has shown a decline for the Gia Lai mountain team, as after only 4 matches, they have accumulated just 2 points from 2 draws and 2 losses.

The remaining matches of round 5 took place on the afternoon of September 28. At Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong Club had to share points after a 2-2 draw with league leaders Ninh Binh Club. From a performance perspective, this could be seen as a victory for the port city team, as the newcomer Ninh Binh had been on a four-match winning streak since the start of the season.

Ninh Binh’s dropped points also made the race at the top of the table much more competitive. On the same day, reigning champions Thep Xanh Nam Dinh suffered another 0-2 defeat to Hanoi Police Club. Considering Thep Xanh Nam Dinh’s squad strength, few would have expected them to lose 3 out of their last 5 matches. Earning these valuable 3 points, Hanoi Police Club extended their winning streak to four matches and currently sit second in the standings after 5 rounds.

The latest match of round 5 between The Cong Viettel Club and Hong Linh Ha Tinh just ended with a 2-0 victory for the soldiers’ team. Both goals came in the second half, scored by Lucão do Break (51st minute) and Pedro Henrique (69th minute). The Cong Viettel Club has also shown consistent form this season, having 3 wins, 2 draws, and currently holding fourth place in the standings.

Round 6 matches of V.League 1-2025/2026 will continue from October 1 to 3. Earlier, two early matches of round 6 were played on September 13, as Thep Xanh Nam Dinh and Hanoi Police Club competed in the Southeast Asian Club Championship. The results were Thep Xanh Nam Dinh drawing 0-0 with Ho Chi Minh City Police Club, and Hanoi Police Club defeating Hai Phong Club 2-1.
