In a round marked by successive shocks, Arsenal and Man City stood out as the few big clubs to savor complete success.
Liverpool unexpectedly lost 1-2 at Crystal Palace in what was considered their worst performance of the season so far. Notably, the decisive goal against the “Reds” came in stoppage time from a set-piece, which remains a chronic weakness for the English champions.
Former Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah punished Liverpool’s defensive lapses with a decisive strike, concluding a dramatic match. The 5-match winning streak was halted, and although Arne Slot’s team still leads the table, the gap to their pursuers has narrowed.
Not disappointing their former player Nketiah, Arsenal secured an emotional 2-1 victory at Newcastle thanks to a stoppage-time comeback. Defender Gabriel became the hero with a header from a corner, propelling the “Gunners” to second place (13 points), just 2 points behind Liverpool. After drawing with Man City last round, Mikel Arteta’s squad quickly restored their image through disciplined play and excellent chance conversion, reigniting their championship ambitions.
After a period of inconsistent form, Man City reaffirmed their status with a dominant 5-1 win over Burnley. Sitting 3 points behind Arsenal, Pep Guardiola’s side still needs to prove their consistency to rejoin the title race.
Tottenham continued to show instability by only managing a hard-fought 1-1 draw against bottom-placed Wolverhampton. Despite remaining in the top 4, the “Spurs” failed to demonstrate the sharpness needed to break away at the summit.
Another London club, Chelsea, disappointed even more by losing 1-3 at home to Brighton. Costly red cards led the reigning Club World Cup champions to back-to-back defeats. “The Blues” currently have only 8 points from 6 matches, with a fragile defense and a lack of creativity upfront following the loss of star Cole Palmer. Without quick improvements, Enzo Maresca’s team faces mounting pressure.
Following a brave win against Chelsea, MU deeply disappointed fans by suffering a heavy 1-3 defeat at Brentford. The “Red Devils” dropped to their familiar 14th position after a poor start to the season. Pressure on coach Ruben Amorim is intensifying. Particularly, captain Bruno Fernandes became the scapegoat after missing a crucial penalty, causing the match to slip beyond the red team’s control.
After round 6, the gap between Liverpool (15 points) and Arsenal (13 points) has narrowed. Crystal Palace, after a hot streak, surprisingly entered the top 3, while Tottenham, Sunderland, and Bournemouth are close behind. Man City, with a resounding 5-1 victory over Burnley, reached 10 points and promises a strong comeback.
Round 6 marked a major turning point as Liverpool slipped in stoppage time, Arsenal surged emotionally, Man City revived strongly, Tottenham and Chelsea stalled, and MU sank deeper into crisis. The title race grows more intense than ever with Arsenal ready to challenge the “Reds” for the crown.
