Chelsea finds itself in turmoil following 3 losses in 4 recent games, and several reports indicate that coach Enzo Maresca is steadily losing backing from the players.
The Italian coach had a very positive first season at Stamford Bridge, leading Chelsea to qualify for the Champions League, while also winning the Europa Conference League and the inaugural Club World Cup held in the summer. However, this season, the team has only won 3 out of 8 matches across all competitions and currently sits just 4 points above Burnley (18th in the 2025/26 Premier League standings).
Numerous sources suggest Chelsea players no longer feel comfortable under Enzo Maresca’s leadership. Notably, star player Cole Palmer is reportedly among those expressing dissatisfaction with the 45-year-old coach’s tactical decisions. This information has been confirmed by Chelsea reporter Simon Phillips and The Independent’s journalist Miguel Delaney.
Despite achieving success in his debut season, Maresca is gradually losing the trust of his own players. Phillips wrote on X: “As I reported last season, a large group of Chelsea players don’t really ‘click’ with Maresca. The issues involving Palmer are completely true. And it’s not just him; many other players dislike the way he demands they play. That’s the reality.”
Meanwhile, Delaney shared with Sky Sports News: “There’s a lot of talk in football circles that things at Chelsea aren’t right anymore. Players are surprised by some of the coach’s decisions. The connection between Maresca and the management also shows signs of strain… Something unusual is happening within this group, and tensions are escalating.”
Chelsea will face Benfica in the Champions League this midweek, before aiming for their first Premier League win since August 30th in a high-profile clash against Liverpool next weekend.
