English Premier League: 3 Coaches Facing the Threat of Dismissal

Ruben Amorim, Enzo Maresca, and Ange Postecoglou are all facing dismissal pressure due to the poor performances of their teams.

Manchester United’s coach Ruben Amorim has secured just 9 wins in 33 Premier League games and has not managed two consecutive victories in the league throughout his 10-month tenure. The boost from beating Chelsea was short-lived as his squad lost to Brentford.

Countdown for Amorim

Former MU defender Gary Neville warned after the Manchester derby that if MU remains in the bottom half of the table by October, Amorim’s position will be at risk.

The defeat at Brentford means MU will start the new month in the lower half of the standings, having finished last season in 15th place, despite spending over £200 million in the summer to rebuild their attack.

Neville stated: "There needs to be a rapid change, and the coach’s ideas must be immediately embraced by the players." Meanwhile, former player Martin Keown told BBC: "I see he has just a 1% higher win rate than Graham Potter, who was sacked. So why is he still in charge?"

Goal has listed six reasons why MU should sack Amorim. First, Amorim is too stubborn with his 3-4-3 formation despite poor results. Second, he has excluded talented players because they don’t fit his system, such as Mainoo.

Next, Amorim has failed to build a winning streak, making it difficult for MU to accumulate points needed for European qualification. Additionally, MU players under Amorim frequently make fundamental errors. Furthermore, the coach is believed to maintain a negative atmosphere within the club.

MU’s management still supports Amorim, but another defeat to Sunderland at Old Trafford next week will increase the pressure on the coach during the international break.

Coaching positions at Chelsea and Nottingham are unstable

Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca is also under heavy pressure after his team lost 1-3 to Brighton. After the match, co-chairman Behdad Eghbali, sporting directors Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart, and the scouting team visited the dressing room to have a private discussion with Maresca.

Chelsea has had players sent off in two consecutive rounds, first at Old Trafford against MU and then in the match against Brighton. If Chelsea continues to get poor results, Maresca could face dismissal. It’s worth noting Chelsea’s reputation as a “manager’s graveyard” in the Premier League.

BBC Match of the Day expert Alan Shearer commented on Maresca’s pressure: "I think when you coach Chelsea, you know you’ll be under pressure if you lose — and they’ve lost two games. That’s the nature of coaching, but even more so at Chelsea. You can’t afford to lose, and now they’ve lost twice, so I think you understand the situation."

Another Premier League coach facing calls for dismissal is Ange Postecoglou, who was appointed Nottingham Forest manager on September 9. Nottingham Forest have yet to win in five matches under Postecoglou. After a 0-1 home defeat to Sunderland, Forest sits 16th in the league table.

Pressure is now mounting on club owner Evangelos Marinakis, who has been criticized for parting ways with fan-favorite Nuno Espirito Santo and appointing Ange.

Hiring Ange, who lost 22 Premier League matches last season, is considered a risky gamble for Nottingham Forest.

Lee Clarke of Nottingham Forest News commented: "Postecoglou has won only 1 of his last 16 Premier League matches as a manager, and it’s puzzling that he’s considered for this club’s head coach role. Last season, the Australian coach won the Europa League, but what about the Premier League? Forest cannot risk relegation to the Championship, but appointing Postecoglou seems to have handed them a 'one-way ticket' there."

In summary, Ruben Amorim, Enzo Maresca, and Ange Postecoglou must deliver positive results in the upcoming matches, or the possibility of their dismissal becomes very real.
