Ousmane Dembele reveals his experience during the injury phase at Barcelona, while affirming he feels no regret and maintains his passion for the game.
Ousmane Dembele — the player who recently won the 2025 Ballon d'Or with PSG — emotionally reflected on his challenging period at Barcelona. Years of recurring injuries disrupted his career, yet the French star insists he never lost faith in football.
Looking back on the turbulent times at Barcelona, Dembele recalled: "I suffered many injuries at Barcelona, and the frequency only increased over time... In the 2019-2020 season, I played just 5 matches... But no, I never doubted myself. I always believed I would return to the pitch and that things would get better. It’s part of life; it’s not always perfect."
After enduring long-term absences from the game, Dembele learned valuable lessons. He shared: "At 28, I know my body well, I understand myself inside and out. The pain mostly comes from physical injuries. But I never questioned my football skills for even a second. I have always loved the game, I have talent, so I never doubted that. The issue is whether my body allows me to perform my football."
Speaking about his playing style, Dembele emphasized his strength and unique personality: "Honestly, I don’t care! I just play my way. Those who like it, like it; those who don’t, don’t. Whether you accept it or not is up to you. Although I want to score, I don’t obsess over constantly rushing to shoot..." This attitude shows the PSG star does not let external pressure influence him.
Most importantly, he has never felt regret: "No, I have no regrets whatsoever. That’s right, I have never regretted anything from the start of my career until now. I have learned a lot, and all of it has helped me. When facing physical issues, it’s not easy to return to the top. But once your body listens to you, and you listen to your body, you can play regularly and show your talent."
Dembele also expressed a clear view about the Ballon d'Or: "When August comes, everything starts over again, a new season begins. The Ballon d'Or is awarded for one season, not ten seasons." This statement shows the 2025 Ballon d'Or winner focuses on the present, viewing each season as a fresh opportunity to prove himself.
After overcoming injuries and becoming a shining star at PSG, Dembele has demonstrated his willpower and natural talent. Can he maintain his form to defend the Ballon d'Or next season?
