Despite poor results in the Premier League, coach Ruben Amorim continues to have the backing of Manchester United’s leadership. Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirmed the club has no plans to replace the manager.
Manchester United is going through a tough period in the Premier League, but the Old Trafford board insists they are not considering firing coach Ruben Amorim. According to the Daily Mail, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS group “refuse to panic” and continue to support the Portuguese manager.
Amorim was appointed in November 2024, replacing Erik ten Hag. He helped MU win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, but the Premier League and European campaign results have fallen short of expectations. After 49 matches, Amorim has only 18 wins, with a win rate of 36.73%.
A recent 1-3 defeat to Brentford dropped the "Red Devils" to 14th place in the standings, with only 7 points after 6 rounds of the 2025/26 season. Amorim’s persistent 3-4-3 formation is still questioned, especially after Bruno Fernandes missed a crucial penalty.
Nevertheless, Ratcliffe believes Amorim needs more time to fully harness the value of the £236 million summer signings. MU is also on a long-term plan, including a £2 billion new stadium project. Dismissing the current coach would cost around £12 million, which the board does not want to consider at this time.
In response to firing rumors, Amorim stated: “I’m not worried about my job. I just focus on giving my best every moment. We need to improve, and the important thing is to win the next match to regain momentum.”
Although the future remains uncertain, MU has not yet sought a replacement for Amorim. However, British media reveal Gareth Southgate is under consideration, along with interim options such as former stars Michael Carrick or Darren Fletcher.
With mounting pressure, each upcoming match could become a decisive turning point for Ruben Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.
